International Conference
Equality and Justice
LGBTI Rights in the XXI Century
12-13 May 2011 – Florence, Italy
Equality and Justice – LGBTI (Lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex) Rights in the XXI Century is the two-day international conference closing the Equal Jus Project, an 18-month Fundamental Rights and Citizenship action co-funded by the European Union. The project builds on the common European legal heritage for developing an informal and open network among all actors involved in promoting, guaranteeing and enforcing LGBT rights with the purpose of sharing knowledge and expertise. The convenors are the Italian project partners University of Udine and Avvocatura per i diritti LGBT.
The conference will address fundamental rights and anti-discrimination law in relation to sexual orientation and gender identity. The focus will be on the European legal system (at the regional, national, EU and Council of Europe levels) and on relevant international and comparative law. Prominent speakers will address the audience during plenary sessions, while presentations and discussions on specific topics will take place in parallel symposiums.
